The historical movie spans the life of the 'Lion of Kerala' King Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja of the Kottayam Royal family. The movie will showcase his heroic fights against the British in the jungles of Wayanad during the 1790s. He was one of the first freedom fighters of India.
Mammootty plays the pivotal role of Pazhassi Raja. The role will definitely be a challenge for him. Tamil actor Sarath Kumar will make his Malayalam debut in the movie as Pazhassi Raja's trusted commander-in-chief Dalapathy. He has allocated special dates for this film and is fully focused on completing it as soon as possible. Kanika is the female lead. The others in the star cast include Kalabhavan Mani, Padmapriya, Jagathy Sreekumar, Thilakan, Murali Manohar, Linda Arsenio and Manoj K. Jayan. Lakshmi Rai from Belgaum plays a seductive role in the film.
The film being made with the latest technical advancements and with a budget of about 5 crores is produced by Gokulam Gopalan. Venu handles the camera. Music maestro Illayraja creates music for the songs penned by O.N.V. Kurup.
