The day of ‘Kutty Shranku’

It was the day of ‘Kutty Shranku’ yesterday at the IFFI, Goa. The movie had the most notable screening attended by the full house, when it was shown in the Indian Panorama section of the festival. The movie is opined as one of the best from its director Shaji N Karun, who is said to have opted for a varied discontinuous style of narratives fusing fantasy and reality. Scripted by P F Mathews and Hari Krishnan, the movie was also noted for the beautiful frames by Anjali Shukla.

Today in IFFI, Sivan's Keshu will be screened. Also in the documentary section, Malayalam movie directed by Geethu Mohandas titled ‘Kelkkunundo’ will be shown.

New Malayalam Movie Paleri Maanikyam Stills

Mamootty's Paleri Manikkam, directed by Ranjit is all set for release this month. The film is a period crime thriller of a CBI officer who investigates a case which happened in the late 50's!

The film is based on a story serialised in Mathrubhumi weekly in the early 60's written by T P Rajeevan. It is based on the sensational Manikkam murder case that rocked Kerala during the 50's.

What makes the film interesting is that Mammootty will play a dual role as the CBI officer who re- investigates the case in 2009 and a feudal Muslim landlord who lived in the 50's and was involved in the crime. There is no relationship between both the characters.

The film is being produced by K.V Anoop and Subair under the banner of Varnachitra Big Screen.

Pazhassi for Blue Ray

‘Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja’ will be one of the first films to be available in a blue ray format. G. Dhananjayan, the COO of the Moser Baer entertainments company who had bought the home video rights of the epic movie said, that the Blue Ray version of the movie will be available to the public by the April of 2010.

Moser Baer has bought the home video rights in all formats of the movie in a whooping price, which is not yet disclosed. Sitting the movie as a monumental film made on the biggest budgets, Moser Baer maintains that the movie will definitely be a much treasured one for the lovers of cinema.

Meanwhile, the movie is continuing in 70 centres across the state in its 43rd day of release.

Pazhassi Raja (Tamil) releasing on November 20

he dubbed Tamil version of Malayalam superstar Mammootty's super hit historical film Pazhassi Raja, which was earlier expected to grace screens across Tamil Nadu on November 6, later postponed to November 13, has been rescheduled for November 20. The release of the film got delayed due to some technical issues. Now with everything sorted out, the Tamil version of the magnum opus will hit screens next weekend.

The film, written by Jnanpith winner M.T. Vasudevan Nair and directed by Hariharan broke the record of Twenty:20 in Kerala and has become the biggest hit of 2009. The movie also stars Sarathkumar, Kanihaa and Padmapriya in pivotal roles.

On goondas of ‘Chattambinaadu’

The team of director Shafi, scriptwriter Benny P Nayarambalam and Megastar Mammootty has been an immaculate success in all their previous endeavors like ‘Mayavi’ and ‘Thommanum Makkalum’. Now they are on to complete a hatrick of hits with the new movie titled ‘Chattambinaadu’. The movie as usual a hilarious affair, tells the story of a township named Chembada Naadu, which gradually got the nickname of Chattambinaadu after the arrival of a bunch of goondas, to solve some local issues. After the completion of their assignments, some goondas left the town while most stayed back exploring the utilities of the town.

Different goonda gangs started their arrival into the township to aid Kattampulli and Mallachira families controlled by two feudal landlords, who were in war for land and power. Mammootty plays the role of a rich planter named Virendra Mallaya, a 'goonda' with 37 criminal cases against him. He happens to land at ‘Chembada Naadu’ to buy a coffee plantation, but finds to his surprise that everything in the township is controlled by a host of goondas. Mallaya, who speaks in a Malayalam with a strong Kannada slang, now takes on the criminals in a cleaning up operation.

Benny P Nayarambalam has written the story and screenplay while all regulars in the Shafi films including Vijayaraghavan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Salim Kumar, Cochin Haneefa and Janardhanan are also in the cast. Vinoo Mohan, T G Ravi, Boban Alummoodan and Siddique play other important roles of the movie which will have Lakshmi Rai and Mydhili as the heroines.

Alex Paul will handle the music department in the lyrics of Vayalar Sharath. Manoj Pillai is in charge of cinematography while V Saajan does the editing. Joseph Nellikal, Pattanam Raheed, S B Satheeshan and Dickson Poduthas head other technical departments of the movie.

Produced by Naushad and Anto Joseph in the banner of Big Screen entertainments, ‘Chattambinaadu’ will be brought to the theaters as a Christmas release by Playhouse.

Mammooty Signed For a Kannada Movie

Malayalam superstar Mammootty, whose recent film "Pazhassi Raja" is breaking records at the box office, has signed his first Kannada film. The film will be directed by Abhay Simha of "Gubbachchigalu" fame.
"I had sent the script to Mammootty sir through e-mail an year ago. He confirmed his acceptance and then his secretary got in touch with me. Then I personally went to meet him in Thiruvananthapuram. We had several discussions about the dates. Mammootty sir will finalise the dates within a few days," Simha told IANS.
In the film Mammootty plays a Malayalee settled in Karnataka. To be produced by well-known filmmaker K. Manju, the film will also be made in Malayalam and is likely go on floors early next year. Manju and Simha were in Pollachchi, Tamil Nadu Monday to finalise the deal with Mammootty who was shooting there for director Shafi's film "Chattambi Nadu". "It is another attempt by my production house to make films with talented National Award winners like Kamal Haasan and Mammootty. The film will be simultaneously made in Kannada and Malayalam," said Manju who produced "Rama Shaama Bhaama" earlier.

Pazhassi Raja wins most of the AMMA awards

At the recently held Annual Malayalam Movie Awards, Pazhassi Raja took away the cake. While it received the best movie award, the lead actress of the film, Kanika, got the best actress award. The best direction award went to Hariharan and the best screenplay award to Vasudevan Nair. Resul Pookutty and Amritha Preetham won awards for the best sound while Ilayaraja and Padmapriya were awarded the best music director and a special award respectively.
